The Concept2 Skinny paddle tubes are made of high modulus carbon fiber, so they have a smaller diameter compared to the ultralight paddle tube, thus providing a softer feel. Due to the small diameter, air resistance is also reduced, which can be even more significant in headwinds. The thin tubes weigh the same as the Ultralight tubes.
The modern design of the Fat2 paddle pen combines the vortex-creating feature and the large surface, thus resulting in a stiffer/heavier water catch at the beginning of the stroke and a fast release speed at the end of the draw.
Fat2 helps the rider with improved water grip (minimum slippage, faster connection) and more efficient release.
The Fat2 is used with a much shorter overall blade length than the Smoothie2 Plain Edge. This can vary between 4-8 cm depending on the team, gear setting and conditions. It is very important not to overload the rower and thereby cause biomechanical inefficiency, which can destroy the effectiveness of the hydrodynamic benefits of the Fat2 pen.
The Fat2 then it achieves the greatest efficiency when the angle of the water intake is greater, and the competitor extends more in relation to the axis line.
The upper edge of the blade is bevelled.
The Vortex Edge is glued to the end of the blade.
The two changes result in greater efficiency in the front foot push part of the shoe.
Compared to the Smoothie2 Plain Edge (Standard Smoothie2), it is recommended to use it with a blade length 1-2 cm shorter and it achieves the highest efficiency when the angle of water capture is larger and the competitor extends more in relation to the axis line
